Soundtrack Spotlight: "Inside Llewyn Davis"

3:34 PM

Like their 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou, the Coen brothers took on the talent of T-Bone Burnett to arrange their collection of folk covers for their new film, Inside Llewyn Davis, set for a December 20th release. Having already seen the film at the Cannes Film Festival, I can confirm that with every soulful performance and with every toe-tapping rendition, it's the music of Llewyn Davis that will send you absolutely head over heels for the film. Acting as a stark contrast to the grey, frost-licked New York City, the warm passion of the soundtrack is the lifeblood of this beautiful film, with performances from Oscar Isaac (who plays the titular character), Marcus Mumford, Justin Timberlake, and more. I may or may not have been waiting for this soundtrack since May. And I may or may not have checked on its release every week since May, hoping it'd get an earlier date. Well, it's finally here...though somewhat unofficially as a stream via NPR. But hey, I'm not complaining! I've waited this long and I can wait until its actual release date on the 11th (I've never wanted iTunes to take my money so badly...)!

Now excuse me while I roll into a ball and cry while I listen to this eargasm for the 8th time (today).
